Learn to view your life without judgment, asking yourself why is this helpful? By observing your life, you will be able to see why you have certain habits and traits. If you find yourself observing and thinking about traits that are not serving you well, figuring out why can help you to change unhelpful habits by getting to the root of the problem.
Conversely, if you are observing positive habits and traits that are serving you well, you can have an appreciation party! The more you appreciate, the more you will have to appreciate.
Want to take this a step further? Find the lesson, silver lining, or positive aspect that came from your awareness. It is easy to see why the good things happen. It’s harder to see the good that came from the bad.
You can journal or even just think about your observations. I actually just think, I don’t keep a journal. I have a feeling, in the beginning, most people will find journaling helpful. Let me know what you think.
